Nintex Workflow for Office 365 – Add a Site Workflow Link

A huge thanks to Mike Fitzmaurice who put me onto this little nugget of information.  You can find Mike on Twitter.

With Office 365, when you install the Nintex Workflow for Office 365 app, you’ll find that creating workflows for lists is very easy.  But I really wanted to be able to make Site Workflows also.  What I found, was that I had to click on that little gear in my site:

Site Contents

There you’ll see the Nintex Workflow app that you have installed :

App

If you click on this app, it’ll take you to creating a Site Workflow.

These seems like a lot of steps.  Is there a way to simplify this?

Solution

On the left of your site, you see the quick launch links like you would normally see in other SharePoint products.  There is also an Edit Links button that will allow you to add links there.

Edit Links

In order to do this, we need:

  1. a nice name – “Nintex Site Workflow”
  2. the url we want to go to

First, we’ll go back to Site Contents and right click on the Nintex Workflow for Office 365 app and select the “Copy shortcut”.  You now have the url to creating a site workflow.

Next, back to our site, we click on the Edit Links link, click on Links and we add in our Text and Url.

Add Link

Click OK then Save and you’ll now have a link in your Quick Launch links.

New Link

When we now click on this link, it’ll take you to the Workflow designer canvas and you can create your Site Workflow.

How do I edit an existing Site Workflow?

Once you are on the Nintex Workflow designer canvas, there is an Open button on the ribbon.

Click on that and you’ll see all your existing Site Workflow and be able to open it and edit it.

If you have any questions or issues with creating that link, let me know.
